Result!

A day late, I know. I was off on Wednesday. Oddly quite pleased about this even though it wasn't our election. I know I said I don't do politics, and I don't. So I won't. Still quite pleased though.

I didn't realise how much I minded until he won it. It feels as if the sun has come out from behind a cloud. Optimistic, I know, but if the gun, oil, aviation and nationalist lobbies have a little less influence, democracy will have been served.

Prof M.M. has the DVD box set of the last series of the West Wing so we've had an episode or two every evening - I think he was trying to synchronize it so that the Santos-winning-the-election episode would be on 4th November, but it didn't quite work out, I think it'll be this weekend now. I'm a bit confused between reality and fiction now - when will Leo be announced as chief of staff?

BT - *big fat high five*. Exactly. It wasn't till I saw the headlines that I realised I'd been holding my breath. I actually feel less ashamed of Britain's poodle-style relationship to the US now there's an alpha dog worth respecting...!

MM - I personally think Aaron Sorkin made it all possible by planting the "good president" idea in the heads of the American electorate! Obama may not be Bartlett but he looks like a close second. Watching "Studio 60" again in the Fishwife household - Mr F said "people don't talk in real life like they do in Sorkin dramas" and I said "I know, isn't it a shame??" See you Friday xx

People aren't half as smart or sassy as they are in Sorkin dramas. And they don't have half as much integrity either. Which is a terrible, terrible tragedy if you ask me.

I KNOW!!! Why am I not working in a latenight TV studio with Matt, Danny, Harriet and Alex (the Nicolas Cage impersonator)? Why am I not being bombarded with sharp humour and wordless hugs of support???? Having said that I do actually quite like my job, even if our level of banter tends more to "I haaaate you" and flicking the Vs at each other.

His tie needs straightening but at least his underpants are inside his trousers. There may be hope after all.

The pic choice is excellent especially in view of the challenges and expectations ahead ;-)

"Quite pleased." Oh, you Brits are the masters of understatement. ;-)

That shout of joy you heard Tuesday night (middle of the night your time)? That was me here in Florida. Jumping on my sofa, Tom Cruise style.

I was quite pleased.

Steve - He wears glasses when he's a superhero, you know.

PS - I know, I felt the same way when Blair first got in (sorry) and look how that turned out - the only time I feel sorry for politicians is when they inherit a complete mess from their predecessors and are expected to superhumanly sort it out by an adoring public who then hate them when they ddon't...!

A - hello! Yes, I was being a tad understated - I was over the moon. Big cheering and dancing round the kitchen! Even my relatively right-wing husband had a smile on his face. Although it was, for him, mostly the thought of how aged and crumpled Gordon Brown is going to look standing next to young, fit, well-dressed Obama in the inevitable summit photos.
